•A fuel with a higher octane rating allows for a higher compression ratio, which extracts more energy from the fuel while at the same time preventing engine damage from pre-ignition

•Fuel is color coded in aviation
–87 Red (obsolete)
–100LL (low Lead) Blue (this is ours R44/R22)
–130 Green

•The problem with compressed charge engines is that the temperature increases (spontaneous combustion temp) compressed charge can cause pre-ignition.
•The octane rating of a given fuel is a measure of the fuel's resistance to self-ignition
